Dry Shampoo

The more you wash your hair the oilier it gets. I know that sounds wrong but it is apparently true. So, if you have oily hair you should wash it less often.

But, how do you get through the transition time until your scalp learns it no longer needs to produce so much oil now that you are not washing it away all the time? Dry shampoo to the rescue!

The best dry shampoo is corn starch. You just brush it onto your roots then brush it out of your hair.  Easy, right?

Not so much if you have dark hair. You can brush forever without feeling like you are getting all that white power out. And if you brush the roots too much you may stimulate those oil glands again.

So what is a brunette to do?

Cocoa powder.

Cocoa powder

Stir about 2 Tablespoons of cocoa powder into 1/4 cup of corn starch and the powder you don’t brush out will not be so noticeable. Adjust the amount of cocoa powder you use according to how dark your hair is.

Now that is easy.

  1. What if the hair isn’t the color of cocoa or the color of corn starch? What would someone like that (me) do?

  2. Linda? you smoking those funny cigarettes? I have dry dry DRY hair and believe me .. shampooing ever day is the pits. So, I don’t. I don’t know anything about oily hair but it seems as though washing with a shampoo for oily hair would do the trick… but then as you know … I know nothing.

haha .. but I love the cocoa idea.. I never… you got outside yet? sure was pretty here today! 71 degrees!!!

  3. I have been ‘poo free for since we bought our Journey almost 2 1/2 years ago and I love this idea. Unfortunately, I’m gray through and through — but the idea of smelling like cocoa all day long would be mah-velous.

Almost makes me want to throw in a few marshmallows too — except not on a hot day….

    Cheers,

I cracked an egg on top of my head once after reading that ‘egg shampoos’ made your hair shiny.
like rinsing a huge snot ball off my head.
and once… a kid spit on my head from the top of the tallest slide at six flags over texas.
a little like the egg episode… only not as huge. YUK.
