Minimizing Question

For most of us it is hard to decide what to keep and what to dispose of when we are downsizing.

There are lots of blogs and books about how to decide but here is the most important question you can ask yourself:

What would I run into a burning building to save?

For most of us the answer is our family.

For those who have pets they are often included in this list as we see them as part of our family.

Is there anything else in your home that is truly irreplaceable?

  1. looking over your stuff If you have not used it in the past year dump it / give it away this is not easy we all cling on to stuff I know that is my problem also………..good luck

  2. I thought about my purse and my computer. My purse is for all that ID you’d have to struggle to replace. I always thought if I had to jump out a plane slide, I’d make sure my purse was with me regardless that you’re told to leave it behind. Nope. If it’s there, it’s going with me.

  3. Our go bag. Along with the girls. Everything else can be replaced. But I’d be sad losing my 13 new $1 tops. lol

  4. my small portable box of important papers. and some jeans and tops in a bag. and underwear… and my shoes.
oh. i’d have them on probably if I was running from a fire.
by the time I figured out how to unplug this computer and the router and the whatchamathingy…
the house would be burned down. so I guess i’d just leave.
i’d start over in another neat little apartment with a sleeping bag and lawn furniture.
sometimes starting over is a good thing.

  5. When we retired to FL 5 years ago, the stuff in our 2 floor w/ basement house had been reduced down to what we could put into the back of our Prius.

All our furniture, appliances, and household goods were old and we decided to start all over.

We took our brand new tv, the computer, some clothes, family scrapbooks and pictures. That was about it.

If I had to make a mad dash to save something, it would be the flash drive that has our important computer files backed up on to.

  6. The priority matters a lot, its all about the attachment. Probably I’d like to save everything what I don’t want to loose. From the current belonging I’d like to get my recreational vehicle at first.

  7. Great question Linda.

I would save my cat, at least one of my guitars and my laptop. I really like the idea of a “Go bag” that Sandie mentioned filled with important papers and what-not that would be a hassle to replace!

Other than that, I’d be good 🙂

Take care and I hope all is well.

    Lyle
