Jet Lag

Is it possible to get jet lag when crossing only one time zone?

Because that’s what I appeared to have last week. I was so brain fogged I could barely function.

I have decided it’s because of my sleep schedule.

In Minnesota I hadĀ been going to bed about 3 am and getting up about noon.

Now I am in North Carolina and asking my brainĀ to get up and function about 7 am.

It has no problem getting up at 7 am but it expects me to make a quick trip to the bathroom then go back to bed. So it says, “What do you mean ‘that’s it’? You don’t really expect me to function at this hour, do you?”

Slowly but surely it is accepting that, yes, I do expect it to function then.

So, I only went to one exercise class all week. And I’m not sure how much I learned in the lectures. I may have to repeat some classes.

But, I feel happy and I have lost almost 5 pounds so some things are going right in spite of my recalcitrant brain.

It can only get better from here, right? Right?

Linda

  1. Getting up at 7 versus noon is a HUGE change, especially if you’re not adjusting your bedtime. Unfortunately, it’s one that you should have probably worked at before getting to the programme. But it sounds like you’re making good progress. Five pounds is a huge accomplishment! Congrats!!! Thank you for tagging in.

  2. I can’t even imagine trying to readjust my sleep schedule that much. I’m dreading the three hours time change heading back to Arizona. If you need to repeat classes to make yourself well, that is what you should do. But you are definitely making progress. Way to go.

  3. It certainly is hard to adjust your sleep schedule but if you can force yourself not to nap and go to bed earlier you will get used to it. 3 am til noon is only 7 hours so if you go to bed at midnight you will still get 7 hrs. We have to go to bed at 8 to get up at 3:45am. Repeat those classes you are making good progress. We want to see you healthy and be able to make it to Q.

  4. you must be a total NIGHT person!!!
bob’s daughter was like that. she came into her own about 5 pm and then was good til the wee hours.
    she slept until noon too.
this was acceptable until school started. then talk about a rude awakening!
i remember thinking that her brain and body were probably in shock! LOL.
we all lived by my dad’s edict and hours. thus… perhaps why i’ve always been a morning person.

  5. Time Zone travel has always messed me up. I seem to have less of a problem traveling East than West, but it annually takes me until the next daylight savings change to get accustomed to the previous one and if I move through more than 1 time zone in a couple weeks I’m doomed to do everything out of sync with the rest of the world for a month or more. I just don’t get it. It’s not a matter of age — I’ve always been like this.

I’m up with the sun, and when the sun hasn’t shown it’s happy face yet I’ll sit there waiting for it. sigh.

  6. Justing catching up on some blogs since I’m now settled in at Imperial. Best wishes for success with your new program.
