Being Predictible?

We spend a lot of time reading the forums at Escapees.com learning from people who have been fulltiming for years. One of their bits of wisdom is that people who travel the way we have been usually only do so for a year. Then they slow down. Maybe buy a car to tow behind their RV. Park their RV in one place for a week or more and use the car to visit the sights in that area then move to another area and do it again.

We moved out of our house May 14, 2008.  Since then the map of our travels looks like this:

We are tired of running all over the country.

So we are headed to our domicile state of South Dakota to see about buying a car we can tow. Then we plan to spend the summer slowly, very slowly, exploring the Upper Midwest. I’m embarrassed to admit that after living in Minnesota for 45 years there are places there I have never seen. It’s about time I do so, don’t you think?

  1. what are your thoughts for after midwest? heading south again for winter? I realize Maine is at the end of the world, but I do think you’d both enjoy the White Mountains region. You’re welcome to park at the house – electric but not sewer, and free laundry!

  2. It is about time. 😎

You’ll have to watch the weight of your towed (toad) vehicle as I can’t imagine that a 24′ RV has tremendous capacity. (We had good luck with a Toyota MR2.)

I see from your map that you’ve done rather well for yourselves in a single year but it was at rather a breakneck pace. So, slow down, smell the flowers, and explore some areas in depth. This, being written on Memorial Day, brings to mind all the places we’ve visited and places we want to visit. It takes a long time to see the whole world. 😎

  3. Yes – I think you should spend sometime back here in Minnesota and enjoy all the great sites that you haven’t seen .
