Changes?!

Dave does not like change. In the nearly 45 years we’ve been married his daily breakfast has been cereal and juice. True he had to substitute orange juice for grapefruit juice when his doctor changed his medicine. And he had to give up Grape Nuts when they started breaking his fragile teeth. But his breakfast is still cereal and juice.

So, when I said I wanted to go fulltime RVing he was not happy. But, he loves me so we went. For more than three years we went.

But, every summer, when we went back to visit friends and family in Minnesota, he talked about how much he’d like to live there again. Every time, I refused to consider living through any more Minnesota winters.

Now we’ve compromised. We’ve signed a lease on an apartment about a half mile down the street from the house we sold to go fulltiming. We plan to both live there for at least seven months of the year. In the winter I will become a snowbird heading south to warmer climes. We will be selling our current RV with the plan being for me to buy a small one similar to the one we started out in but custom built for me. After all, during my winter escapes, I won’t have Dave available to reach the things I can’t.

So watch this space for our ad. We’ll be taking our current RV to PPL in Houston in late October to sell for us unless we sell it privately between now and then.

TTYL,

Linda

  1. Okay … I read it again. I see lots of Linda compromising and if you’re both happy, you’re happy. That’s what counts the most. I certainly understand the desire to be around family and friends. The more we go and the more we come back, the more I can see us getting a little condo around this area. Good luck and we’ll miss you.

    2nd try
    3rd try

  2. You have to do what makes you both happy. Glad you could come to some sort of compromise. I give you tons of credit, Linda, for wanting to continue your love of travel. Let us know when you are in Houston. We won’t be there till November some time. We may possibly be able to meet up.

  3. I had to read this post a couple of times to make sure I knew what I was reading. Talk about major changes. And I thought we had made a big change by getting rid of the motorhome and going back to the fifth wheel. But I think its wonderful that you guys were able to work out your compromises so it works to make both of you happy. That’s what being married is all about. Compromises and keeping both parties happy. Keep us posted on what’s happening.

  4. We’re hoping it is a win/win situation as I’m hoping to finally get the custom built Sportsmobile I’ve wanted for at least four years and the freedom to travel in my style while Dave gets the familiarity of home. We neither one want to own a house again and the apartment we found we think will suit us very well. Only time will tell us how that works out.

2nd try. Autocorrect capitalized my first try which made it not a match.

  5. Hi Linda,

Just read your comment over at Wheeling it blog. So I clicked over to check out your blog.

I am the one that really wants to go fulltiming but Lauree really likes home. Since we have been out 4 of our 5 month trip, she has emailed, texted and written letters to everyone back home many many times. She is ready to go home.

I think for the time being our solution will be sort of like yours. Stay at our home for a few months and travel a few months. Kinda get the best of each world for the one that needs it.

If you would like to write an article/blog post about your fulltiming experiences and put in at the end that you are selling your motorhome I will post it on my blog. I don’t have a ton of readers yet, hopefully its only because we have only been blogging for 4 months. We can put links in it back to your blog and pics of your motorhome and such. I have never done this, but read other blogs that did similar things with some success.

I like reading blogs about fulltiming as that is what I want to do. So I will spend the next few days checking out the rest of your blog.

    Thanks
    Mark
