Zone Defense
For when you live with others who are not minimalists.
Each family member has at least one area in which to accumulate whatever makes them happy.
But, there are zones in which stuff is not allowed to accumulate.
If you are the cook and you are a maximalist you can have as much cooking gear as your choose to have. But, if you are the cook and you are a minimalist you get to defend your zone again encroachment of other people’s stuff.
If you share your living room with kids you can declare the zone behind the couch to be a play area while all space in front of the couch is a minimalist zone.
A zone defense makes it possible for minimalists and maximalists to live in harmony.
In theory, anyway.

great theory but I could see marriage breakdown or big arguments – of course, the maximalist could begin to see the virtue especially when it came to buying more items when less were just as good…
although I’m not truly minimalist I find it hard to have a lot of clothes/shoes…yesterday purchased a new pair of walking sneakers as the 15 year old pair was coming adrift! The dude at the store said they were in relatively good condition considering their age. I had bought these running type shoes when I was into taking 10km walking competitions and last year when I wasn’t going out and about so much, started wearing them again, because my other “good walking sneakers” were feeling like ton weights – I’d had to buy a different brand and they weren’t as nice…and my “gold” sneakers are not that comfortable either…more for going in a car to an event, not walking miles in them
Jim has his shed and his boatport. I still fight the paper clutter battle.
