Friends and neighbors

Wonder if I’ll ever remember to take pictures? Hauled my camera around but still forgot. Anyway, today was a good day.

I went out with my license plates to see about installing them and a neighbor promptly asked me if I needed help. I said, “No.” Then added, “But I never turn down offers of free help.” So he came over and installed my back license plate and told me I needed to get washers to install the front plate. Then he replaced my broken electrical connector. Then he rehung my backup camera monitor which had detached itself from my windshield and added a safety strap to it so if the suction cup lets go again it should at least stay up there.

Shortly after he left, two new friends arrived. Sue I’d been emailing with and she’d met Diane just a week or so ago. As women traveling alone in vans we thought we had enough in common to make a visit worth while. We walked down to the bar/cafe’ here in the park and had lunch. And talked. And talked. And talked. We had a lot of history to catch up on and a lot of tips to share with one another. It was a very good visit.

But no photos of any of that activity. Sorry.

TTYL,

Linda

  1. That sounds like a really good day! It’s amazing how nice some people are. It’s also nice to meet others with similar interests.

  2. Linda,

Glad to see your meeting new friends and things are going good on your new adventures.
Hope you had a very Merry Christmas and wish you a Happy New Year.

  3. it sounds lovely where you are! good people. i’d say the best kind of christmas gift of all.
isn’t it wonderful how some men simply enjoy ‘fixing’ things!!! they do! and they’re always a treasure.
i forgive you for no pictures because you spoke it well and i could see it in my mind.
plus ~ i looked up where you are anyway from your last email. LOL!
glad you had a great sounding holiday.
we were promised snow and got a thin layer of ice and a tiny-tiny frosting of snow and bitterly cold high winds. ah well. could have been tornadoes like in alabama. so weird. in december yet!

  4. After a lifetime of hauling around as much (or more) camera gear as luggage since retirement I have found it wonderful to just enjoy life with nothing more than my iPhone photos. I’m sure in time I’ll “get over it” and go back to hauling cameras and lenses but for now I’m happy to simply “be.”

So, I can easily understand how the day can pass without a snap within earshot.

    Enjoy.

  5. What a nice neighbor. I am so happy for you Linda. It sounds like your solo traveling is agreeing with you, and you are having such a great time.

  6. You are definitely getting into the swing of this van traveling. And meeting such great people along the way is an extra blessing. And I know exactly what you mean about forgetting to take pictures.

  7. So glad you are getting to use your CRA membership. Emerald Cove is our favorite park and we really have missed it. Won’t be there this year but we are hoping to be out there next year and spend some time!

  8. I’ve found that the iPhone takes almost as good a picture as my Olympus ToughShot. Just not as waterproof. Many of my sunsets were taken with the iPhone and turned out pretty nice. Since I have it with me more often than not it comes in handy and I ain’t dragging around an extra device all the time.

  9. You did good! Yay! I’m glad you accepted his offer of help, but you are probably more glad than I am. Heehee – sounds like a wonderful day. Damn, I’m jealous!!! But happy for you.

  10. You could really appreciate that safety strap on the back-up camera. My GPS kept falling from the mount until the screen shattered. Magellan replaced it, but I used fishing line attached to rear view mirror to engineer a safety strap. What kind of safety strap did he use? Do they manufacture such a device?
