YES, I’M YELLING

My computer died today.

that’s only a minor problem since it is eight years old so it’s time to replace it anyway,

and the Apple store about 15 minutes from here is open and has them in stock.

and they offer curbside pickup if you order online.

so I did.

or tried to.

Dave say I need two cables and one of them is out of stock.

so they want me to wait until Monday to get my computer.

so I called to get clarification about that and got someone in India.

then he and Dave both tried to tell me what to do but neither one was helpful.

so I yelled.

Dave has now gone to the store to buy my new computer in person with whatever cable they do have.

hopefully, I will calm down by the time he gets home.

but he should probably leave me alone to do my own set up.

ps. Errors in this post are caused by me typing it on my tablet.

pps. The store had both cables in stock.

Tech neck

Tech neck is the name of a condition caused by holding the head forward and tilted down as we stare at our phones and tablets until holding the head upright becomes challenging.

As I settled in to crocheting this afternoon I realized I was holding my head in that precise position. As one does when doing any type of needlework.

Such as the embroidery and needlepoint women have been encouraged to do for hours every day for centuries.

I now wonder if that was actually the source of the condition known as a dowager’s hump?

A New Snippet

I’ve just begun to read a book where a strong and good man had just been appointed Admiral of a ship in His Majesty’s Navy. The ship has a bad reputation, having sent off three previously reporting admirals. This is how I see that going.

Our man arrived at the dock to discover no boat had been sent to bring him out to the ship. So, he made his own arrangements and arrived on board to discover a group of officers sitting about and laughing while several sailors simply stood around.

He knew the officers were the sons of wealthy and influential men who didn’t feel the need to obey an admiral. He quickly took the measure of the group and picked out the ringleader. He turned to one of the sailors and told him to call all hands on deck.

When all had arrived he returned to the officers, singling out the leader, and loudly said, “This man has disobeyed a direct order. He will be stripped and flogged as will anyone serving under me who does such a thing. I will take volunteers to do this. If none volunteer I will pick some of you.” Several men stepped forward. Then the admiral turned to the other officers and said, “While this is happening you will all return to your quarters or be sent to the brig. Your choice.” Again several sailors stepped towards those officers. The officers quickly turned away.

Thus, discipline was restored to the ship.

Now, I’ll continue reading to see what actually happened.

Toys

Yesterday I found myself comparing something to the size of a shooter marble.

Then I wondered how many women knew what size that is. Is it just those of us who grew up with only brothers?

I was a girl in the 1950s. For toys I was given dolls and child-sized household things like dishes and brooms.

I was supposed to learn how to be a wife and mother.

My brothers were give things like bricks and marbles and comic books.

The bricks were proportional so they learned about geometry. The marbles taught them about force and angles. The comics taught them about finance as they traded with and sold to friends.

And people wondered why boys were batter at math than girls were.

Town Planning

I recently read a series of articles about four guys wanting to build a town in Texas. The articles were about research done regarding successful towns and what they did right. That started me playing The Sims again, a game where you choose residents and build them houses and try to keep them happy.

I’m building an entire city block surrounded by a pedestrian mall, a side street on one side, a sidewalk along the side opposite the street, and a block of undeveloped land behind the block I’m developing.
(Sorry picture is not clickable. WordPress is not cooperating.)
Along the side street I built a 2-story duplex, four rooms and a bath on each level, with the left half having living areas downstairs and four bedrooms up. Four housemates live there. The other half has been converted into a small hotel with a reception area, a breakfast nook, and six bedrooms.
Around the corner, on the mall, I’m currently building a small workout facility with two bathrooms with showers, a few workout machines, and a juice bar. Next door is a music store that will sell instruments and stereos. Each of those will have an apartment above it with one bedroom, a great room and a bath. No one lives in those apartments for now.
Around the corner from those, on the sidewalk, is another house built like half of the duplex. It will be converted into a bookstore with a children’s nook and a coffee shop on the main floor with bookcases both downstairs and up.
Since the housemates each own one of the four businesses they all wander freely in and out of all of them. The residents are very happy there.
If I build across the mall from it, there will be an art gallery and a pub facing the mall. I’m enjoying the challenge of building all this with only the stuff provided by the game.
Now, if I could just build it for real. 🙂
