Fuel

It’s been years since I pumped my own gas. I seldom drove once Dave retired so he was always there to take care of that task.

Not today.

Dave recommended I get fuel before heading out to my next park. So I stopped at the corner station. Their diesel was only at the truck pumps. Oh well, I’m sure I’ll get another chance.

The next station I didn’t see in time to be able to safely pull off the highway.

The third station only had biodiesel. Not recommended in my engine.

Finally, an easily accessible station with diesel at the car pumps. Except the pump didn’t work.

So I pulled further down and discovered the pumps at the other end didn’t have diesel. Circle back to one that does.

Finally, my tank is full and I’m ready to head on down the road. But, I’m exhausted from all that.

So when I see a McDonalds ahead with a mall parking lot adjacent I pull in. Time for some caffeine. After all bodies need fuel, too.

Linda

  1. Linda,

What are your plans for this year in your new RV ?
Are all the bugs worked out with the electrical.

Enjoyed the pictures and look forward to your blog updates.

  2. It is frustrating trying to find diesel fuel. Some stations have that fast pass thing if you want diesels, others only offer one pump with diesel. Gets to be a paint sometime. Glad you’re full up and headed down the road. Have fun.

  3. Getting fuel is…I think…besides finding someone to do my hair RIGHT…is my biggest hangup in traveling. Now that we have a 5th wheel, I hope we can travel from destination to destination without stopping to get gas. Once we get to the park, unhook and fill up the first time we go sight seeing. At least that is my plan.

  4. Well, on the bright side, it used to be even worse a few years ago! When I first got my Sprinter, it required ULSD and only about 1/2 the diesel stations had it. Now, I no longer have to worry about ULSD unless I drive south of the border.

Most ULSD here in Illinois is a biodiesel blend (up to 20%), so I’ve had no choice but to use it. So far, in 4 years, no ill effects. Would definitely avoid pure bio-diesel or anything blended stronger than 20% though.

One iOS app I’ve been really happy with is GasBuddy. True, it doesn’t tell you which stations only have diesel in the Truck lanes, but I’ve found lots of cheaper fuel just a mile or so off the highway and nice maps to show you exactly where the stations are at.

  5. Oh dear. If I wasn’t laughing so hard I’d try to commiserate. But sometimes life seems to gang up on us and test our patience. I needed to hear that little story. Last evening we had our 30-something -th house showing after our previous buyer defaulted on their purchase contract. It’s down to the point that every time we have another showing we go through some kind of emotional roller coaster — to having a chance to laugh along with someone else having a trying day was just what I needed. Thanks for our candor.

And at least now you’re good to go for a while…..

    Cheers, Peter
